Bucharest hosted this weekend the first edition of the Motiuashi Cup 2025, which brought together hundreds of athletes from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Turkey and other countries, turning a debut project into an international judo event of remarkable scale.
The atmosphere in the sports hall was intense and full of energy, with emotion, determination and fair play marking every match. On the tatami, young judoka proved not only technical skill and discipline but also the values that define authentic judo – respect, perseverance and humility.
Sensei Petre Moțiu, a Moment of Honor and Inspiration
The competition was honored by the presence of Sensei Petre Moțiu, the legendary coach whose name inspired the Motiuashi Club. Currently based in the United States, Sensei Moțiu returned to Romania to stand beside Adrian Szekely, founder of the competition, and to celebrate the success of the first edition.
During his visit, Petre Moțiu delivered an emotional speech to athletes, coaches and parents, emphasizing the importance of character, respect and discipline in sport. He personally awarded medals to the winners, offering a symbolic gesture of continuity between generations.
“It is a great joy to see how an idea becomes reality and how Romanian judo gains strength through passionate young athletes. The Motiuashi Cup carries a unique spirit – one built on work, respect and tradition,” said Sensei Petre Moțiu.
A Strong Start for Romanian Judo
Organized by ACS Motiuashi Bucharest under the leadership of Adrian Szekely, former member of Romania’s Olympic Judo Team, the event demonstrated professionalism and passion from start to finish. Together with Violeta Beclea-Szekely, Olympic silver medalist and president of the club, the organizers managed to create a competition that combines high-level sport with education through discipline and respect.

The Motiuashi Cup 2025 proved to be more than a competition. It was a demonstration of character, fair play and commitment to excellence. From its very first edition, the event has set a new standard for youth judo in Romania and has already earned international recognition.
